Dear Friends,

The onset of winter and the prime ski season brings us, as in years past, to plan for the Pessach Holidays.

In keeping with the demanding expectations of our guests, we have chosen this year to spend the Pessach Holidays in a fabulous setting, the Algarve region of Portugal. With lovely beaches interspersed with romantic fishing villages, this area attracts millions of tourists annually.

Portugal, which shares the Iberian Peninsula with its much larger neighbor, Spain, is today a republic that is a full member of the European Union. However, its ties to the Jewish community go back hundreds of years – many Portuguese citizens of today are descendants of marranos, those Jews expelled from Spain in 1492. With clearly Jewish names, many of these people are aware that their roots go back all the way to the dark days of the Inquisition, and a number of communities still exist in Portugal where Jewish practices and customs continue to be observed in secret.

The locality where we will spend Pessach has marvelous scenery, with sheer cliffs that drop into the deep blue sea, and a lovely warm spring climate that will allow you to derive the utmost from your holiday.

The five-star deluxe Sao Raphael Hotel is a brand-new, ultra-modern facility designed for refined tastes, with suites and rooms furnished with the latest conveniences. The hotel’s sweeping public areas include a lobby, a bar and snack area, conference rooms, dining rooms, a beautiful spa, a heated indoor swimming pool, saunas, a Turkish-style hammam, a sports center and treatment rooms.

The hotel’s lawns and gardens extend out over a wide area, and include three lovely outdoor swimming pools, a fully-equipped children’s club, tennis courts, a soccer field, and a mini-golf facility. With trees and greenery throughout and the beach in proximity, this location is truly ideal for spending the days of Pessach.

In this relaxing environment, where sea spray rising from the breakwaters mixes with the smells of the local taverns to create a tantalizing atmosphere, you can unwind and transform your Holiday into something different from all others.

We have gone to great lengths to ensure that this Pessach our guests will enjoy a total experience characterized by elegance, spaciousness, and quiet; personal and devoted service; and classic refined food served in a distinguished manner. Of course, the kitchen shall be Glatt Kosher, with no Gebrochts or Kitniyos, and only Shemura Matza will be served.

Our guests will also benefit from a fully supervised Children’s Club, Torah learning activities, special programs for adults and children, and excursions and attractions during Hol Hamoed.

With best wishes for a Happy and Kosher Pessach,
Yours,
Michael and the staff at Maagalim.
